Burnaby senior re-united with his scooter

There is a happy ending to the sad story of a Burnaby senior whose brand new scooter was stolen.

Two months ago, 86-year-old Bill Confiss spent $4,000 on his new scooter to help him regain his mobility.

Last week, he was approached by at a man outside the Seabus terminal who said he wanted to take a closer look.

“Someone said to me – it is a nice scooter. My mother needs one – or something like that. Can I take it for a little spin around the block? I said yes. Worst thing I could have done,” says Confiss.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Confiss let the man take a test drive, but he didn’t come back.

But all’s well that ends well.

Somebody dropped off the stolen scooter at Fire Hall No.9., less than 12 hours after Global News aired the story.

They also left a note, saying, “My friend took this. He is sorry. Get it back home.”

After almost a week struggling with a wheelchair — a chore with his heart condition, getting his scooter back is a real relief for Confiss.

“I am as happy as anyone can be. My faith in humanity has been restored quite a bit,” Confiss told Global News.
