Emergency crews were called to the area of McLaughlin Road South and Ray Lawson Boulevard, south of Steeles Avenue West, at around 11 p.m.

Police said the victim, who was later identified as Brampton resident Adrian Ebonka, was found along a footpath in the area suffering from a gunshot wound.

Ebonka was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition by paramedics.

“Despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, the victim died as a result of the injuries he sustained,” police said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police didn’t release suspect information.

A GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign was launched on Wednesday to help Ebonka’s family with funeral expenses.

“Today is a very sad day for our family. Today we have lost our son, our brother, our nephew, our cousin and our friend,” the campaign statement said, thanking those who have expressed their support.

“A parent should never have to bury their child and Adrian’s parents were not planning would [have] never thought this would [have] happened.”

Anyone with information or video was asked to call police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3205 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
