Before delving into provincial affairs as Queen’s Park Bureau Chief and Host of Focus Ontario, Sean Mallen spent many years as Senior National Correspondent. During this time, he reported on sex scandals in the White House, environmental disasters in the Arctic and pilgrims mourning the passing of the Pope on the streets of Rome.
With more than 20 years at Global News, Sean has covered stories from coast to coast in Canada and around the world. From national and provincial election campaigns, to the ruins of Kosovo, to the spectacle of the Athens Olympics, Sean has had a grandstand seat at many fascinating events.
He was honoured with an international award at the New York Festivals as Best Correspondent for his reporting in Kosovo and during the Walkerton water disaster and also received a National News Directors of Canada (RTNDA) Award for his coverage of the 1995 Quebec Referendum.
As a documentary writer-director, he scripted Leap of Faith: The Dance of Mikhail Baryshnikov, an award-winning account of the 1974 defection of the celebrated dancer and, more recently: No Country for Old Men, a look at the lost tradition of officer training at Canada’s universities.
When Sean’s not asking political leaders the tough questions that matter most to Ontarians, he’s spending time with his daughter, and volunteering at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, recording talking books.
