Police are investigating after three people were killed in Vancouver on Wednesday night in two unrelated incidents.
Officers were called to the 1300-block of East 64th Avenue and Knight Street in South Vancouver around 7:30 p.m. after receiving multiple reports from neighbours of hearing shots fired.
A caller to Global News reported hearing as many as eight gunshots in the neighbourhood at that time, before hearing the sound of wailing sirens.
One victim was found dead in front of a house in the area, Vancouver police confirmed Thursday.
That person has now been identified as 23-year-old Vancouver resident, Iqubal Grewal.
A short time after the Vancouver shooting, Richmond RCMP attended to the scene of a torched vehicle found in a field near Kartner Road and Westminster Highway, just east of No. 7 Road.
RCMP had the area closed off to the public.
On Friday, police confirmed the two incidents were related.
“Investigators have determined the vehicle used in connection to the murder – a GMC Terrain – was burned out in Richmond,” Const. Tania Visintin with VPD said in a release. “We believe there are people out there who have information on this incident and we are urging them to come forward.”
Earlier in the evening, Vancouver police found two people unresponsive in a room at the Astoria Hotel, located in the 700-block of East Hastings Street.
Police said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died in hospital.
There have been 14 homicides in Vancouver this year.
