TORONTO – Several hundred mourners have said goodbye to a man who was killed outside a Toronto mosque where he volunteered.
Family and friends of Mohamed-Aslim Zafis say he was a gentle man who spent much of his time helping out the underprivileged.
They also say they hope police will find the 58-year-old’s killer quickly.
Police say Zafis was killed by an unknown suspect while he sat outside the mosque as he controlled entry to the building in order to comply with public health protocols.
Police say there are many similarities between Zafis’s homicide and a nearby killing five days earlier.
The International Muslim Organization of Toronto says it will not be intimidated by the violence and the mosque will remain open.
