Memorial set up near scene of  deadly Sandstone Valley shooting

On Monday, friends of the victims set up a small memorial near the scene of the shooting.

Aryan Al-Khatib says he knew Ibrahim but was closer to Shaikh.

He alleged the 19-year-old had been involved in some sort of criminal activity since a young age but said his death still caught his friends off guard.

“It’s just so sad to see him go so early,” Al-Khatib said. “Once you get caught up in things you can’t really escape it. He was in a situation where he couldn’t really and, unfortunately, this is what happened at the end.”

Al-Khatib also had a message for the suspects involved in the shooting.

“You know you took a life. You made a mother lose her son,” he said. “I don’t know whether that hurts you or not, but they will be brought to justice and… they’ll get what they deserve.”

Rawi Babiker was a close friend of Shaikh and said that his death should be a wakeup call for anyone who may be in a similar situation.

“If [Shaikh] was here, he wouldn’t have wanted us to be doing what he was doing,” Babiker said. “He would’ve just wanted us to live our lives and to go down the right path.”
