VANCOUVER – Resort towns dominated the top of the rankings for Canada’s most expensive places to get a hotel room, according to Hotels.com’s newly released Hotel Price Index.

According to the list, the top five are all resort towns heavily dependent on the tourism industry. Six of the top 15 are in B.C., the data shows, while some industrial centres in the far north – where hotel rooms are on limited supply – also made the list.

Vancouver, meanwhile, ranked 31st with $140.41 per night. Among major cities, Vancouver ranked below Charlottetown (19th), Saskatoon (20th), St. John’s (21st), Montreal (24th), Kelowna (26th), Halifax (28th) and Quebec City (30th).

Among U.S. cities, New York topped the list at $194 per night. Globally, island resort getaway Bora Bora led the pack with a staggering $606 per night average price tag.
