Former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide returned home from seven years in exile to a celebrity welcome Friday, mobbed by close allies and journalists outside his private plane.
Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s life has been defined by educational and political success as well as turmoil and failure. Twice elected president and twice deposed, Aristide is a popular but also polarizing figure. He has been living in exile in South Africa for the past few years.
