Members of Cory Monteith’s family have now gathered in Vancouver, and there are rumours his girlfriend, Glee co-star Lea Michele, is also in the city.
Monteith, 31, was found dead on Saturday in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.
The actor’s father Joe Monteith told Global News he is “devastated” and Cory’s cousin Richard Monteith has spoken out to defend his reputation.
He says he is angry about comments that have exploded in the media and speculation about how and why his cousin died.
“Every day it’s hard to wake up,” said Richard. “Especially with some of the speculation, uneducated comments, and ignorance that comes out through some of these people. It was very hurtful.”
Monteith’s cause of death is not known at this time. An autopsy has been conducted and some results could be released as early as Tuesday, but it will take a few days for toxicology results to come through.
His parents are trying to grieve privately, said Richard, and understand what led to their son’s early death.
“We’re still in shock and disbelief, we’re still in mourning, but it’s a different mourning, it’s an aggravated mourning,” Richard added.
“We can’t mourn in silence, we can’t mourn with our family.”
