UPDATE: On July 17, 2020, police said an autopsy confirmed Gladue was the victim of a homicide, however, they declined to release the manner in which he died for investigative reasons. Police said investigators have determined he was in a violent altercation before he got to the alley where he was found and said they hope someone will come forward with information about where the altercation occurred and how Gladue got to the alley.
The death of a man found injured in north-central Edmonton on Monday night has been deemed suspicious by police.
In a news release, police said officers responded to a “trouble unknown call” in the area of 112 Avenue and 103 Street just before 7 p.m.
Once they arrived, officers found an injured man with life-threatening injuries. According to police, he was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Homicide Section has taken the lead of this investigation,” a news release said. “Police are urging anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area of 112 Avenue and 103 Street between 6 and 7 p.m. this evening to contact police.”
On Tuesday, police issued a news release with an update on their investigation. They said the man who died has been identified through fingerprints as 36-year-old Matthew Jordan Gladue and that his family has been notified of his death.
They also said Gladue was first found injured in an alley between 103 Street and 104 Street, just north of 112 Avenue.
Police said they decided to release Gladue’s name to the public in an effort to get information about “his last known whereabouts and associations.”
“We are looking to speak with anyone who had contact with Mr. Gladue on the morning or afternoon of July 13, 2020,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Jared Buhler of the Edmonton Police Service’s Homicide Section.
