TORONTO — Two firefighters were injured in a four-alarm fire in the city’s east end on Saturday.
Toronto Fire crews were called to a three storey building at Broadview Ave. and Gerrard Street at around 5 a.m. The building had a supermarket on the ground floor and apartments above it.
When they arrived, they found most of the building engulfed in flames and some of the residents trapped inside. Crews were able to rescue and account for all of the 11 residents.
One of the units is said to have been vacant and under renovation at the time of the blaze.

A part of the building has collapsed and there is a concern that it’s structurally unsafe.
Damage is said to be about $2-million. The fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
Fire crews remain at the scene and traffic is affected in the area. The TTC says service to their 504, 505 and 506 streetcar routes will be affected.
