Peachland improves waterfront with stimulus dollars

A lakeside Okanagan town is taking advantage of economic stimulus cash to improve its waterfront, expanding access beyond foot and vehicle traffic.

Three levels of government, municipal, provincial and federal, helped turn the sod Monday morning on Peachland’s waterfront.

Each are involved in paying for one-third of an expansion of 1.2 km of Beach Avenue between 5th Street and 13th Street.

The $3.9 million project includes a new sidewalk, a three metre wide multiuse pathway and drought resistant plants along the entire stretch.

Peachland began waterfront improvements in 2008. Construction on this second phase will be complete in the fall.
