Global Toronto wins big at the RTNDA awards

Global Toronto is a winner again! The News Hour has received three prestigious top awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the voice of electronic journalists in Canada, plus two honourable mentions for stories broadcast in 2009.

Bert Cannings Award—Best Broadcast-Large Market for exclusive coverage and interviews on the day two suspects were arrested for Tori Stafford’s murder in Woodstock.

The Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity Programming for the series “˜Our Canada-New Canadians.’ On the day they became Canadian citizens Allison Vuchnich did moving interviews with families from Iraq and Rwanda to find out what brought them to Canada.

The Trina McQueen Award for News Information Program for “˜Focus Ontario-The Ontario Legislature-Our House.’ Global Toronto’s Queen’s Park reporter Sean Mallen took viewers on a fascinating historical tour of the Ontario Legislature building.

The Charlie Edwards Award for Spot News for the story “˜Struck By Lightning’

The Dave Rogers Award for A Short Feature in a Large Market for “˜A Single Rose.’

The awards were presented at a banquet on May 15.
