It will cost couples a little more to say “I do” in 2011.

The fees for marriage licenses and marriages commissioners will increase on January 1st. Licenses are going up from $50 to $60 while rates for marriage commissioners will increase from $50 to $75.

The total cost of a wedding using a marriage commissioner will be an additional $35.

These are the first changes to The Marriage Regulations, 1997 since it was introduced.

“The proposed change is for marriage licence issuers and marriage commissioners," Justice Minister Don Morgan said in a release. "It will not increase revenue for government."
