Search underway for boaters in Georgian Bay after power boat sinks

HONEY HARBOUR, Ont. – Rescuers are searching an area of Ontario’s Georgian Bay to see if anyone was onboard a power boat that sank in Honey Harbour.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton was contacted at about 8:50 p.m. Sunday night after provincial police found a sunken five- to seven-metre vessel a short distance from shore.

It isn’t known whether or not the vessel had been occupied prior to its sinking.

A Canadian Coast Guard vessel from Penetanguishene, a Griffon helicopter from CFB Trenton and an OPP boat searched all night.

Another Coast Guard boat was expected to join the search Monday morning.
