UPDATE: Oilers busy during start of free agency

Edmonton – Defenceman Andrew Ference, centre Boyd Gordon, and goalie Jason Labarbera are now Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers have signed Ference to a four-year, US$13 million contract, a hefty raise from his last contract with the Boston Bruins. He would count $3.25 million against the salary cap..

Ference is an Edmonton native who’s spent the past seven seasons with the Boston Bruins.

The 34-year-old had 13 points and was a plus nine in 48 games last season.

Ference joins a defence corps that includes Justin Schultz, Ladislav Smid and Nick Schultz.

In 760 career NHL games, Ference has 37 goals and 156 assists.

He was a part of the Bruins’ Cup-champion team in 2011.

On Friday morning, Ference posted on Twitter a photo of himself as a child wearing an Oilers jeresey.

Meanwhile, Gordon has inked a three year, $9 million deal. The 29-year-old has 122 points in 486 games with Washington and Phoenix.

Gordon spent last two seasons in Phoenix. He had a career high 29 points in 2006-2007 with the Washington Capitals.

Labarbera has agreed to a one-year contract. He spent the last four seasons with the Coyotes.

The Oilers have also added former New York Islanders forward Jesse Joensuu to a two-year deal. The native of Pori, Finalnd has eight goals and seven assists in 67 career games.
