Fire crews respond to blaze west of Regina’s downtown

Fire crews are investigating the cause of a house fire west of Regina’s downtown Friday morning.

A neighbour noticed smoke at 2140 Montague Street and called 9-1-1. One person was home at the time and smelled smoke while he was on his computer. Fire crews met him at the front door as he was fleeing the home.

Crews had some difficulties getting to the fire on the home’s third floor.

“They were confronted with heavy smoke and heat when they got to the second level of the home,” City of Regina Fire Marshall Albert Headrick said.

There were no injuries.

“Luckily it was during the daytime,” Headrick said. “And the smoke alarm was working.”

Investigators are on scene looking into what caused the blaze.
