Tropical Storm Erick intensifying off Mexico

MIAMI – Forecasters say Tropical Storm Erick is intensifying off the coast of Mexico.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Eric was centred about 235 km south of Zihuatanejo on Friday morning. Its maxiumum sustained winds had reached 85 kph, and it was moving west-northwest at about 20 kph.

Erick could be near hurricane strength Saturday, though it is expected to remain offshore.

A tropical storm warning is in effect on the southwestern Mexican coast from Lazaro Cardenas to Manzanillo. A watch is in effect for Acapulco to east of Lazaro Cardenas and from west of Manzanillo to La Fortuna.
