Flu Shot Questions

Just days after provincial health officials announced a plan to immunize some 24-thousand manitobans over 3 days in October, a B.C. study has found participants who received a flu shot in years past were twice as likely to get H1N1.

Now Health Minister Theresa Oswald says the immunization plans may change.

"We will not go forward with a program, or cancel a program until our medical advisors suggest what we should do," says Oswald.

Other countries, including the U.S, have tried to duplicate the study and have found different results.

Oswald says our medical advisors are currently reviewing all findings before making any decisions on the vaccine program.

Ontario and Quebec have already decided to scrap the seasonal flu vaccine for everyone under the age of 65 in favour of mass H1N1 vaccinations.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says our current vaccination plans are flexible to new information and can be changed at a moments notice.
