Man sent to hospital after home invasion, stabbing in North Preston

A 54-year-old man was sent to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following a home invasion and stabbing in North Preston, N.S., early Friday morning.

Nova Scotia RCMP say they responded to the stabbing in the area of North Preston and Johnson roads at around 3:30 a.m.

“Police arrived to find that the suspect had left the area,” police said. “The victim was taken to hospital.”

Police believe the victim had been at a home on Ernie Lane when a man forcibly entered and demanded money.

“A struggle ensued during which a knife was introduced which resulted in the victim being stabbed,” police continued.

A forensics team could be seen going in and out of the home throughout the morning on Friday.

A canine unit was also brought in to assist with the investigation.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority confirmed to Global News Friday morning that Halifax’s emergency department went into lockdown.

It’s currently unclear whether the lockdown is connected to the incident in North Preston.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to contact Nova Scotia RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
