REGINA – The city of Weyburn will launch the first ever emergency alert program in Saskatchewan.

The system, called Everbridge, will alert residences and business within 10 minutes of any emergency situation in the town. The system contacts the residents either by cell phone, home phone or email.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Residents and businesses who are already listed in the 911 database (SaskTel phone book) will automatically be subscribed to receive the emergency response alerts to either their home phone or business phone. Residents can also register with the emergency plan by submitting their cell phones and email addresses

“The expenditure for the Everbridge system is money well spent and will be a vital tool in the City’s efforts to provide quick, accurate and effective information to residents when communication is critical. It is important that citizens take the time to opt in because if we can’t reach you, we can’t alert you,” explains Fire Chief Steve Debienne.’
