Floods: Evacuation orders remain in effect in B.C.’s central Interior

Flooding in parts of B.C.’s Interior has caused significant damage to hay fields, irrigation channels and roads.

Chris Keam of the Cariboo Regional District said it will be hard to fully realize the damage until the water has receded.

Forty-eight properties are either under evacuation alerts or orders, he said.

The City of Williams Lake has issued an evacuation alert for the Green Acres Mobile Home Park, affecting 86 homes.

The city is also asking residents to ration water as crews are on their way to fix a ruptured sewer line in the River Valley.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre has now downgraded the flood warning to a flood watch for tributary rivers and streams around Chilako and southwest of Prince George.

The warning has also been downgraded to a watch for Cariboo and Chilcotin, including tributary rivers and streams around Williams Lake, Quesnel, Alexis Creek, Anahim Lake, Cache Creek, Bonaparte River and the surrounding areas.

A high streamflow advisory remains in effect for Salmon River near Salmon Arm and Dean River.

The high streamflow advisory has now ended for the Nazko River and West Road River.

The forecast centre says snowmelt rates have eased over the past several days with cooling temperatures and some overnight freezing. Most rivers have now reached peak level and have been slowly declining over the last day or more.
