Fire ban issued in Edmonton

After several weeks of dry, windy conditions and grass fires throughout the region, the fire marshal for the City of Edmonton has issued a city wide partial fire ban.

A partial fireban means no fires in park areas using charcoal, briquettes or wood, no open air burning, including those with existing permits, and no fireworks. The ban does not include legal back yard fire pits.

Officials warn that failing to comply with the ban could lead to fines being handed out to recoup costs associated with dispatching Fire Rescue Services to fight the fire.

“Dry weather conditions mean there is a heightened risk for uncontrolled fires,” said Ron Jeske, fire marshal with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. “This ban is a preventative measure to help keep Edmontonians safe from the risk of fire.”

The ban will stay in place until conditions change.
