Medicine Hat Police have upgraded charges in the death of a 19-month-old baby at a Medicine Hat day home.
The 24-year-old woman, identified by the Herald as the day home operator Erin Jackman, is now charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of failing to provide the necessities of life.
The toddler was airlifted to Alberta Children’s Hospital with critical head injuries July 20, and her caregiver was charged with aggravated assault and failure to provide necessities of life.
The child died in hospital later that day.
Following the initial charges she was released into the community, provided she obey several conditions, including one to stay away from the family of the girl.
Jackman is now back in police custody. A bail hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
