EDMONTON- Help is on the way for residents in the Fort McMurray area who suffered property damage due to flooding in early June.
“Our first priority is getting help to the families and small businesses who experienced uninsurable losses caused by this disaster,” said Associate Minister Don Scott, MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin.
Beginning Tuesday, residents who suffered flood damage will be able to apply for the Wood Buffalo Disaster Recovery Program at the municipal office.
“This funding will go a long way to help those in the region who experienced uninsurable losses because of this flooding,” said Mike Allen, MLA Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo.
Before applying, affected residents are asked to contact their insurance company to get a letter outlining their uninsurable damage. Residents should also take pictures of the damage to provide to damage assessment evaluators.
On-site damage assessments will take place after eligible residents submit their applications, the province said Saturday morning.
Disaster recovery programs only provide financial assistance for homeowners to repair or rebuild their primary residence and other uninsurable property damage and loss.
