Man charged in school hostage taking pleads not guilty

The man charged in connection with a hostage taking at A.E. Cross Junior High School has been found fit to stand trial.

Matthew Akani Adeniran, 25, has been charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, criminal harassment and possession of a weapon, after holding a school secretary hostage at knifepoint in March. No one was injured in the incident.

Adeniran underwent a psychiatric assessment in April following a request by forensic psychiatrist Dr. Kenneth Hashman.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges in court Wednesday.

His trial will being in June.
