Bottle of water sold at PNE spiked with ammonium chloride

A PNE employee ended up at St. Paul’s Hospital on Thursday night when he became ill after consuming a bottle of spiked Dasani water.

A closer look at the bottle indicated that several syringe holes were poked in the bottle, and ammonium chloride was injected.

Vancouver Police Cst. Jana McGuiness says the bottle of water was purchased at Hunky Bills perogie stand.

She says police are satisfied that only one bottle was tampered with and there’s no risk to the general public.

PNE spokeswoman Laura Ballance calls it an "isolated and unfortunate incident."

According to health officials, the employee was discharged from hospital Thursday night and is said to be doing fine.

Ammonium chloride is commonly used in fertilizers, cough medicine and for dying and tanning leather.
