TORONTO — Alan Myers, who played drums on the Devo smash hit “Whip It,” died Monday after a battle with cancer.
Myers, who joined the new wave group in 1976 and stayed for a decade, was Devo’s third drummer.
“#DEVO mourns the passing of Alan Myers, who we liked to call ‘The Human Metronome.’ R.I.P.,” reads a message on the official Devo Twitter account.
Current drummer Josh Freese tweeted: “RIP Alan Myers. 1 of my all time favs. An underrated/brilliant drummer. Such an honor playing his parts w/Devo. Godspeed Human Metronome.”
Devo co-founder Gerald Casale praised Myers on Twitter as “the most incredible drummer I had the privelege to play with for 10 years,” he wrote. “Losing him was like losing an arm.
“Alan, you were the best.”
