Officers arrived and were confronted by a man swinging a bike chain.

Disturbing video emerged last year showing Boyd crawling across the street before he was shot by the officer.

The video sparked a new investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team. Today’s announcement of a special prosecutor comes as a result of the investigation.

No charges were ever laid against the officer who shot Boyd.
