Garber, Thicke among 2013 Canada’s Walk of Fame inductees

TORONTO — Actors Victor Garber and Alan Thicke are among the famous names to be added this year to Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Garber, who was born in London, Ont. is best known for his roles on Alias and last year’s movie Argo. The 64-year-old veteran actor lives in New York City with his longtime partner, artist Rainer Andreesen.

Thicke, a native of Kirkland Lake, Ont., is best known for playing Jason Seaver on Growing Pains. The 66-year-old father of singer Robin Thicke lives in California with his third wife Tanya Callau. They appear together in a new reality series, In The Thicke of It, on Slice this fall.

Also set to be recognized for their achievements are Toronto-born music producer Bob Ezrin; Free The Children activists Craig Kielburger and Marc Kielburger of Thornhill, Ont.; and Canadian soccer star Christine Sinclair from Burnaby, B.C..

Posthumous honours will go to Terry Fox, who inspired Canadians by attempting to run across the country to raise funds for cancer research, and to jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.

Born in Winnipeg, Fox died in 1981 at only 22. Peterson, a Montreal native, died in 2007 at 82.

This year’s inductees were announced Tuesday morning at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto.

The Allan Slaight Award, which recognizes a young Canadian making a positive impact on their field, will go this year to B.C. pop star Carly Rae Jepsen, who will perform at the gala.

Organizers said nominations came from 30,000 people in 127 countries.

Since debuting in 1998, Canada’s Walk of Fame has honoured 143 individuals and groups, including singer Celine Dion, actor Jim Carrey, rock band Guess Who, filmmaker David Cronenberg and supermodel Linda Evangelista.

This year’s gala will take place Sept. 21 at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre and will later be broadcast on Global and Slice.
