MONCTON, N.B. – A newly proposed policy would see skaters at indoor rinks in Moncton, N.B. don helmets.
City council could approve a new mandatory helmet policy next month.
The policy would cover everyone from seniors to parents and coaches, with the exception of figure skaters and officials from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams.

City director of leisure services, Jocelyn Cohoon, says the helmet rule is important to ensure skaters are safe when they’re using the city’s rinks.
The city already requires kids under 12 to wear helmets.
Helmets will be made available on a short-term basis to rent at the rinks for people who don’t own one.
