Children’s Wooden Play Sets Recalled after Swings Detach

4:01:31 PM

OTTAWA – Health Canada has issued a recall for certain models of children’s wooden playground sets after receiving more than a hundred reports of the hangers holding up the swings’ chains breaking.
“Hangers holding the chains for the gliders can break, causing a child to fall and suffer severe injuries,” Health Canada said in a news release Thursday.
The American-based Backyard Leisure Inc. has received 114 reports of the hangers detaching on the Create N Adventure Wooden Play Sets, particularly on the Cedar Ridge Wooden Swing Set and the Windsor Wooden Swing Set models.
There have only been three reports of injuries, the news release said.
In one case, a child was hit in the head by a chain that had detached from the hanger.
The recall affects 130 play sets sold at Toys R Us stores in Canada and the U.S. between January and May 20 of this year. Swing sets sold after this date are not affected, the agency said.
Health Canada is urging consumers to immediately stop using the wooden play sets.
