Lightning snap 4-game losing streak, beat Flames 4-3

TAMPA, Fla. – Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat scored on the power play and Yanni Gourde added a short-handed goal as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Calgary Flames 4-3 on Saturday to snap a season-long four-game losing streak.

Alex Killorn scored his 24th goal of the season to help the Lightning win for the first time since an 11-game winning streak. Andrei Vasilevskiy ended a three-game losing streak with 18 saves.

The victory came soon after the Lightning announced team captain Steven Stamkos will undergo surgery for a core muscle injury and was expected to miss the rest of the regular season and potentially the first round of the playoffs.

Andrew Mangiapane, Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm scored for Calgary, which had a three-game point streak come to an end. David Rittich finished with 30 saves.

BRUINS 4, ISLANDERS 0

UNIONDALE, NY (AP) — Defenceman Charlie McAvoy had a goal and two assists and Tuukka Rask made 25 saves as Boston beat the Islanders.

The league-best Bruins improved to 41-13-12 for 94 points. The Islanders lost their third straight following a two-game winning streak.

David Pastrnak opened the scoring at 4:30 of the first period, beating Islanders netminder Semyon Varlamov with his league-leading 47th goal of the season. Defencemen Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo assisted. Matt Grzelcyk made it 2-0 at 13:10 with his third goal, assisted by Brad Marchand and McAvoy.

Marchand scored at 11:06 of the third, his 27th goal, with assists to Bergeron and McAvoy.

BLUES 4, STARS 3, SO

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ryan O’Reilly scored the only goal in the shootout to lead St. Louis over Dallas, extending the Blues’ winning streak to seven games.

David Perron, Tyler Bozak and Brayden Schenn, who scored in his fourth straight game, had goals for the Blues.

The Stars got goals from Tyler Seguin, Denis Gurianov and John Klingberg, who scored with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Jake Allen made 28 saves for the Blues. Anton Khudobin made 25 saves and lost his third straight start.

SHARKS 5, PENGUINS 0

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Evander Kane had a goal and an assist, Martin Jones made 30 saves in his 24th career shutout and San Jose sent Pittsburgh to its first six-game losing streak in eight years.

Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Timo Meier and Joel Kellman also scored to give the Sharks back-to-back wins following a five-game losing streak.

The Penguins have been outscored 24-8 during their first six-game skid since the 2011-12 season when Sidney Crosby was sidelined by an injury. All the losses have come in regulation as Pittsburgh has fallen from first place to third in the Metropolitan Division.

The Penguins even went winless on a California swing against the bottom three teams in the Western Conference, having lost to Los Angeles and Anaheim earlier in the week.

KINGS 2, DEVILS 1, OT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adrian Kempe scored in overtime and Los Angeles edged New Jersey.

Dustin Brown also scored and Jonathan Quick made 32 saves for the Kings. Los Angeles is 3-1-1 in its last five games.

Mackenzie Blackwood had his six-game winning streak broken despite making 36 saves. The Devils earned a point for the fifth straight game.

BLACKHAWKS 3, PANTHERS 2, SO

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews scored in the shootout to lift Chicago over Florida.

Toews also had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Drake Caggiula also scored for the Blackhawks. Corey Crawford made 38 saves and stopped both of Florida’s shots in the shootout.

Mike Hoffman had a goal and an assist, and Mike Matheson also scored for the Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots.

The Panthers have lost six straight home games. Their last home win was a 4-3 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 16. The Panthers are 0-5-1 at home in February.

AVALANCHE 3, PREDATORS 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Pavel Francouz made 30 saves in a career-best sixth straight win, Erik Johnson had a goal and an assist, and Colorado beat Nashville.

Gabriel Landeskog and Martin Kaut also scored for the Avalanche, who matched a season high with their sixth-straight win.

Colorado also won a franchise-best ninth consecutive road game and recorded its 11th win in February, also a franchise best.

Viktor Arvidsson and Calle Jarnkrok scored for Nashville, which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Juuse Saros finished with 27 saves.

CANADIENS 4, HURRICANES 3, OT

MONTREAL (AP) — Jeff Petry scored 52 seconds into overtime, lifting Montreal over Carolina.

Phillip Danault, Max Domi and Brendan Gallagher scored in regulation for the Canadiens, who snapped a two-game skid despite giving up a 3-0 lead. Tomas Tatar had two assists.

Charlie Lindgren made 27 saves in his first start since Feb. 4.

Haydn Fleury, Joel Edmundson and Justin Williams scored for the Hurricanes, who forced overtime after being down 3-0.

Carolina’s Anton Forsberg allowed three goals on 20 shots before being pulled in the second period. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 18 of 19 saves in relief.

SENATORS 4, RED WINGS 3

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Artem Anisimov scored twice in regulation and added the shootout winner as Ottawa handed Detroit its ninth loss in 10 games.

Scott Sabourin also scored in regulation for the Senators, who earned their first shootout win of the season. Marcus Hogberg made 25 saves for his fifth win.

Frans Nielsen, Dylan Larkin and Sam Gagner scored for the Red Wings. Jonathan Bernier stopped 36 shots.

MAPLE LEAFS 4, CANUCKS 2

TORONTO (AP) — Martin Marincin scored a rare goal and Toronto went on to beat Vancouver.

Frederik Gauthier, Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman also scored to help the Maple Leafs win for the fourth time in five games. Frederik Andersen stopped 25 shots in his seventh straight start as Toronto increased its lead to five points on Florida — which lost to Chicago in a shootout —for third place in the Atlantic Division.

Tyler Motte and Tanner Pearson had goals for Vancouver, which came in six points behind first-place Vegas in the Pacific Division. Thatcher Demko finished with 26 saves.

COYOTES 5, SABRES 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Clayton Keller had two goals and an assist, Antti Raanta stopped 25 shots after a shaky start and Arizona rallied to beat Buffalo.

Raanta gave up goals to Marcus Johansson and Jeff Skinner less than a minute apart early in the first period. He was sharp the rest of the way and the Coyotes picked up the pressure, scoring five straight goals to remain within reach of the final Western Conference playoff spot.

Jordan Oesterle had a goal and an assist, Phil Kessel also scored and Oliver Ekman-Larsson added a short-handed empty-netter to give coach Rick Tocchet his 100th win at Arizona.

Jonas Johansson stopped 26 shots for Buffalo, which has lost four of six.

OILERS 3, JETS 2

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist as Edmonton beat Winnipeg.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the tiebreaker with 5:16 remaining and assisted on both of Draisaitl’s goals as the Oilers snapped a two-game skid.

Logan Shaw and Kyle Connor scored for the Jets, who have gone 1-3-1 in their last five games.
