RALEIGH, North Carolina – Jury selection continues this week in Brad Cooper’s first-degree murder trial.

Cooper is accused of killing his wife Nancy, a former Edmonton resident.

The mother of two’s body was discovered in a subdivision a few miles from her Cary, North Carolina home on July 14, 2008.

Brad Cooper told police his wife had gone jogging and never returned. A medical examiner’s report suggests she was likely strangled.

In October 2008, Brad Cooper was charged with first degree murder. He has since pleaded not guilty.

The couple lived in Cary, North Carolina for eight years before Nancy’s death.

Brad worked for Cisco Systems and Nancy stayed at home to look after their two daughters, Bella and Katie.

But court documents and a video deposition with Brad Cooper suggest their relationship was troubled.

There are allegations Brad was abusive and that both husband and wife had affairs during their marriage.

Nancy’s twin sister Krista and her parents Garry and Donna Rentz now have custody of the two little girls.

Court could hear opening statements as early as Tuesday and with at least 18,000 pages of discovery, the trial could last as long as two months.

Nancy’s parents hope to stay for as long as they can.

Her father Garry Rentz tells Global News he finds some relief knowing he will soon have more answers about what happened to his daughter.

Global News’ Laurel Clark will be tweeting from the courtroom. Follow her on Twitter @LaurelClark.
