CALGARY – A unique collaboration between a church organization and the Homeless Foundation is helping keep families off the streets and out of shelters.

Acadia Place, a 58-unit affordable housing complex in the southeast is housing families who have been homeless or are on the verge.

The Calgary Homeless Foundation owns the property and charges it’s residents only 30 per cent of their monthly income for rent.

“We’ve seen babies being taken from one church basement to the other and that’s no way to raise a family. This project serves as a way to help those homeless families,” says Geoff Zakaib, KARIOS Calgary Homeless Working Group.

There is a multi-million dollar mortgage on the property and now a Christian group is offering to help fundraise money to help pay off half of that debt.

Once the mortgage is paid off the Calgary Homeless Foundation can focus on the future sustainability of the complex.
