CALGARY – Police are once again warning the public about the dangers of replica and air soft guns.
On Monday morning, police received a complaint about a man inside his vehicle pointing a firearm at a school bus full of children at the intersection of Barlow Trail and 50th Avenue southeast.
The man was found and arrested.
Two weapons were seized – a black, .40 calibre, Beretta handgun with a silencer, laser sight and flashlight and a clear, Smith and Wesson, .40 calibre handgun with laser sight. Police later confirmed they were an air soft pistol and a carbon-dioxide-propelled BB gun.
Police say these “˜real-looking’ weapons continue to be a concern for them.
“We have to treat this as a live firearm,” says Sgt. John McCarthy.
“We have no other choice. This to us is a firearm until proven otherwise.”
After interviewing the man and witnesses, he was released without charge.
Police remind all Calgarians that they respond to every firearms call as though the threat were real. Members of the public are advised against carrying replica guns in their vehicles or out in the open.
