Palmer says the sport puts lives in danger because longboards — a specialized type of skateboard — reach dangerous speeds on West Vancouver’s hilly streets, and riders have no way of stopping if a vehicle pulls into their path.

Several longboarders have been severely injured in recent weeks in accidents in West Vancouver and around Metro Vancouver and Victoria.
