TORONTO — A 95-year-old building in Toronto that has hosted performances by the likes of The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin has been sold to a company that plans to convert it into office space.

The Masonic Temple at Yonge and Davenport Streets, was purchased in mid-May by IT consulting company Info-Tech Research Group.

The London, Ont.-based company paid $12.5 million for the building, which Bell Media listed for sale in March.

Built in 1918, it was the home of the Masons until it was seized due to unpaid property taxes. It was then known as various live music venues, including The Rockpile and The Concert Hall before CTV acquired it.

Shows like eTalk and Open Mike with Mike Bullard were taped at the venue, which later became the home of MTV Canada.

Info-Tech plans to honour the building’s past by staging an annual charity concert in its main auditorium.
