CALGARY – Wicked winds are creating problem areas in and around Calgary.
Strong gusts pulled scaffolding off the construction site of the new Lowes on Sunridge Way northeast Thursday afternoon. Fortunately there were no reports of any injuries.
The winds are also icing over roadways with blowing snow.
Highway #2 between Nanton and Okotoks is extremely icy with blowing snow and reduced visibility. Many vehicles were pushed into the ditch.
In the Lethbridge area travellers faced white-out conditions and blowing snow on Highway #3.
RCMP are warning of poor driving conditions between Fort MacLeod and Crowsnest Pass.
Snow ploughs and sanding trucks have been busy trying to improve conditions.
Unnecessary travel is not recommended.
Farther north, the QEII was down to one southbound lane Thursday afternoon after a semi-truck jack-knifed by Highway 19.
Several vehicles went into the ditch trying to avoid the semi.
