CALGARY – One man has been charged in connection to a carjacking and attack on a taxi driver Wednesday morning.

Just after 9:00a.m, a Checker Cab veteran carrying two male passengers stopped his cab on Wrangler Way just east of Calgary when one of the occupants asked to go to the washroom.

That’s when the two men pulled knives on the driver. He tried to fight them off, sustaining knife wounds to his hands, but the two men managed to get away with his vehicle.

Using GPS, police located the cab shortly afterwards in the northeast community of Falconridge. With the assistance from the K-9 unit, they tracked down one of the suspects at a nearby gas station where he was taken into custody.

29-year-old Peter Joseph Neidig has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, theft over $5000 and possession of stolen property. Neidig made a brief court appearance Thursday morning but was denied bail. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on January 4th.
