A snow squall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale.
Snow squalls will occur on Thursday into the evening, according to the federal weather agency.
Between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow are expected, along with strong winds of up to 50 kilometres per hour.
Environment Canada says the main snow squalls are expected to stay west of Barrie and should weaken overnight.
Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy and blowing snow, according to the weather agency.
