Suspicious package near Dieppe, N.B., city hall prompts police response

Buildings around the city hall in Dieppe, N.B., were evacuated after a suspicious package was found in the area on Saturday morning.

The roads surrounding city hall were blocked off by police as they waited for an explosive disposal unit to arrive.

New Brunswick RCMP blocked off Acadie Avenue, Champlain Street, Du Marché Street and Gauvin Road for a few hours.

Dieppe Fire crews were also on scene to coordinate with police.

As of 1:30 p.m., the incident appeared to be over as officers cleared the scene and traffic was allowed to resume.

Police have not provided any further information about the package or the findings of the disposal unit.
