1 dead after 2-vehicle crash near Coaldale, Alta.

One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision near Coaldale, Alta., on Monday, according to RCMP.

Police said they responded to the crash between a Suzuki Grand Vitara and a Dodge pickup truck near Highway 3 and Highway 512 at around 8 p.m.

In a Tuesday news release, RCMP said the Grand Vitara was travelling east on Highway 3 when it struck the back of the truck as it was merging eastbound onto Highway 3.

The driver of the Grand Vitara, an 18-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP said they will not be releasing the woman’s name.

The truck driver, a 46-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in Lethbridge with non-life-threatening injuries. A 55-year-old passenger in the same vehicle was uninjured.

The collision caused eastbound Highway 3 to be closed for several hours while RCMP investigated.

“All possible factors are being considered in this matter,” Coaldale RCMP said in a news release. “What is known [is that] there [were] good winter driving road conditions and clear weather [at the time of the crash].”

Coaldale is located about 18 kilometres east of Lethbridge.
