Under a new pilot project, students at Saskatoon public high schools will no longer be penalized for plagiarism or handing in assignments late under a new evaluation method for report cards.
Under the new system, students will be graded based on learning outcome while behavior will not have as much of an influence. School officials are insisting that there will still be consequences for not doing the work and not achieving a good learning outcome.
The decision is drawing criticism. Premier Brad Wall says students must know there are penalties for infractions such as plagiarism and lateness. Wall also said his government is considering provincial guidelines for student evaluations.
