TORONTO — The third Top Chef Canada winner was crowned Monday night in Calgary — and it is Matthew Stowe, a product development chef at the B.C.-based Cactus Club restaurant chain.
Stowe, from Cloverdale, B.C., beat 16 competitors to take top honours in the finale of the third season of the popular Food Network Canada series.
Stowe, a 30-year-old married father of a young boy, wins $100,000 and $30,000 of GE kitchen appliances.
Last season’s winner was Carl Heinrich, a native of Sooke, B.C.

On Monday’s episode, Stowe created a Tex-Mex menu in a food truck challenge and then went head-to-head with Danny Smiles with a five-course meal focused on lamb.
In a final appeal to the judges, Stowe said he cooked from his heart throughout the competition.
Stowe graduated from New York’s Culinary Institute of America and worked at New York restaurant Lutèce before becoming executive chef at the Sonora Resort in B.C. He is the author of The Tastes of Sonora Resort.
