Delay in Gagnon court proceedings

There’s been a delay in court proceedings in the case of a disabled woman allegedly killed at the hands of her sister and brother in law. Denise and Michael Scriven are charged with manslaughter in the death of Betty Anne Gagnon.

Gagnon was disabled and died in November 2009, allegedly after years of neglect. Court documents indicate she was forced to sleep in different locked-up areas and sometimes caged inside wire fences.

Last night, supporters held a candlelight vigil, calling for an end to violence against people with disabilities.

The Scrivens were due in court in Sherwood Park this morning. They did not appear, and the matter has been put over until september.
