NASA has released a video of the development of Tropical Storm Andrea which formed over the Gulf of Mexico on June 5.

The first named storm of the 2013 hurricane season moved up the east coast of the United States, bringing high winds and heavy rain. It developed into a post-tropical storm on June 7.

Though it wasn’t a hurricane or a tropical storm, its effects were felt across the east coast of Canada on June 7 and 8 when rainfall warnings were issued for  the Maritimes and Newfoundland. Wind gusts of 115 km/h were reported in Wreckhouse, Newfoundland and Winterland recorded 55.5 mm of rainfall.

Hurricane season typically runs from June until November. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration out of the United States has called for an active season. Many of these storms affect eastern Canada.
