Residents across Canada’s eastern provinces are being warned about a poisonous weed that is spreading.
Heracleum mantegazzianum, also known as giant hogweed, has been spotted in provinces across the country, most recently in eastern Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Contact with the plant’s sad can be extremely dangerous as, it can cause burning, blistering, and blindness.
It is recognizable by its purple-spotted stem, and can grow up to six metres high.
The number of sightings of the plant have increased in the past few days, including sightings in Dartmouth, Wolfville, and Halifax.
