Winnipeggers look for deals at Unclaimed Goods Auction

Bidders take a look at the items up for grabs.

Headingley – Going once, going twice…SOLD!

The Winnipeg Police Service Unclaimed Goods Auction took place in Headingley, Manitoba on Sunday. All of the items available for bid were seized by Winnipeg Police. After going unclaimed for a period of time, they became available to the highest bidder.

“A lot of the stuff that has been stolen isn’t in really good condition and people can get a deal.” said Jeff Noiseux, General Manager of Associated Auto Auction.

The items up for grabs are a mixed bag, everything from power tools and small vending machines, to satellite dishes and sports equipment.  The policy of the auction is ‘what you see is what you get’.  Bidders are not allowed to start up or test any of the items. Certain items can fetch a pretty penny.

“The more expensive items are some of the engagement rings,” said Noiseux. “The city went and got them appraised at over $2000.”

Some shoppers use the event to cut down on business expenses.

“I have a landscaping company, says bidder Jessie Folkerts. “There’s some good tools.”

All money raised will go to the City of Winnipeg.
