British Columbians travelled into the United States out of the Lower Mainland will have to remain patient about delays and closures due to the Skagit River Bridge collapse along the I-5 Highway.

The Washington state government has announced plans to erect a temporary span over the Skagit River, to replace the bridge that collapsed last month.

But Dave Chesson with Washington’s transportation department says the replacement will take a week longer than expected, with it likely in place in the third week of June.

A permanent replacement is expected to be finished around Labour Day.
